The NDIS is a program that provides support for Australians with a disability, their families and carers. It is aimed to help Australians under the age of 65 with a permanent and significant disability to provide them with the reasonable and necessary support they need to live an ordinary life.
As an insurance scheme, the NDIS aims to support people with disability early to build skills and capabilities so they can participate in the community and employment later in life. Assistance from the NDIS is not means tested and has no impact on income support such as the Disability Support Pension and Carers Allowance.
